When relationships go well, they can lift us up, bringing excitement, support, and connection - what we so often see on our social media feeds. In reality, relationships can also be challenging and confusing. When things aren't going well, they can create stress, disrupt our daily lives, and sometimes cause real pain.

Imagine a life where you can understand the reasons behind your reactions, break free of old patterns, honour your own needs, and navigate challenges with more confidence. Imagine your relationships today being healthier and more fulfilling?

Checking out your ex on social media is excruciating and unbearable, but you can't help yourself.

And what about all the unknowns? So much what you've known is now changing - emotionally and practically. Perhaps you've lost some security, and there's so many questions around what is next and how you move forwards? This was not in the plan, and you feel lost, alone and in pain.

Red paper heart torn in the middle

You're feeling betrayed due to something that's happened or perhaps you're the one who feels you have betrayed a loved one. Your mind spins as you try to figure out how to move past it. Late at night you question all the memories that you have.

Perhaps it's around an affair, or something else that has been covered up has been revealed. The trust, in some way, has been broken. You try to work out over and over if all be forgiven or whether things gone too far? You also are confused about what you actually want in this juncture. Did it all happen for a reason? What does it all mean?

What you do know is you can't sit with the hurt and pain for much longer - it all feels too unbearable and a weight you can no longer carry. You feel more and more drained as it continues.

Is it time for therapy to work through the possibilities and work out what you want?

Counselling for confusing relationships.

Two hands, one with yes written on it, the other with no written on it

Some days you enjoy the relationship - you know the routine and the familiarity holds comfort. Other days you feel trapped, unsure about how you feel and have knots in your stomach. Try as you might, you can't push your doubts away.

Over time, you've invested a lot in this relationship. And others have too. In fact, it seems everyone has expectations of what your relationship should be, thoughts about how to fix it and what the future holds.

But you're realising that it's not working and you're not happy. When you see your loved ones face, however, it seems impossible to raise what's going on for you and you don't want to hurt them. You're also feeling scared about what will happen if you decide to make changes or set new boundaries, or perhaps even take the step towards ending the relationship. What if I realise I've made a mistake? Is this what I really want?

Maybe it's time to explore what comes next in counselling?

Let's work it out together within therapy sessions with me in Wimbledon SW19, Clapham SW4, online or by phone.

You feel stressed at the dilemma you're in. What is more important to you - preserving the relationship as it is or welcoming in new change? It may be that the choice you're making is about moving location, having a child, getting married or changing career. Perhaps it's a choice between two different possibilities within your relationship, or maybe you have to choose between your partner and the other option, which they don't want to be a part of.

You may feel certain about the choice you are making but unsure about how to actually navigate it in real time. Or you may feel confused and uncertain of which decision to make.

You imagine your relationship ending over and over, and do all you can to stop it happening. This means though, that you seem to either overwhelm your partner, become distant or struggle to get close to them.
